We feed our dogs the raw diet. The dogs get raw meats and bones and occasionally vegetables with cottage cheese and yogurt with some extra stuff added. They are healthy and happy dogs. We wean our puppies on the raw giving them ground meats and bones with cottage cheese and yogurt and baby food veggies and baby food fruits mixed in. We also give our puppies raw meaty bones to chew on. Please research both raw and kibble and make the right decision for you and your pet. There are some quality kibble out there. I started Baby on the raw diet about 6 years ago when I realized I was on the same road as I was with Rio and I didn’t want to go down that road again. He was on prednisone and Bendadryl and antibiotics for most of his last 6 years that I had him. He had itchy bumpy skin and stunk and had yeast infections in his ears most of the time. His breath was the nasty smelling breath I had ever smelled. I tried all sorts of kibble trying to help him out. The vets were no help. They just pumped him full of medications and he never really cleared up. When Baby started the smelly breath and yeasty ears I got on the Internet and started researching. I came across the “raw” diet and decided that it was worth a try as nothing else was working. Baby can not have anything with grains as she has an intolerance to gains.
Carina MacDonald was my main mentor. She guided me through the change from kibble to raw food. I had a million questions. She then wrote a book called “Raw Dog Food make it easy for you and your dog” Dogwise Publishing. I think it is the best book out there. It is simple easy to read and has great pictures! (Of course I would think that as Baby is in it!) Carina also owns the Raw-lite yahoo group. It is very relaxed and tons of info on there.
